Out [IN] Out

Hikone Art Castle

It's been almost half century since Star Wars episode 4 showed us the concept of hologram, and until now, nothing close has been achieved. Through this project, we challenged on adding third vector on a LCD screen, to achieve this idea of using a flat image as an overlay of another image or an object.

In this project we used this hardware so-called "transparent LCD", which is basically made by tweaking the backlight of a LCD and arranging it spatially. We collaborated with a Berlin based compony called MMT, whom manufacturs a transparent LCD with it's brand name HYPEBOX. We imported the largest size with custom dimention, and removed it's back light with a high-luminance LCD display to achieve our multi-layered screen.

This installation was showcased on late 2017 at the 410 anniversity of Hikone Castle, and was only previewed for 1 month. Because of it's technical difficulty, this archive is at the moment the only way to see this working.
